What year is it?

For fans of the Back to the Future movie series, October 21, 2015 represented the day that Marty McFly traveled to the future in Doc Brown’s time machine car, the DeLorean. While the fusion powered flying cars depicted in the series’ second installment have yet to come to fruition, today’s car owners may be asking, ‘What year is it?’ when filling up at the gas pump. Exactly one year ago to the day, the Beacon’s front page featured a story that regular unleaded gas had dropped below $3 in Warwick at the Gulf station on West Shore Road and Tidewater Drive for the first time in four years. On Wednesday, the Harss gas station on West Shore Road cash price for the same grade fell below $2 per gallon. According to the Rhode Island Gas Prices Website, the lowest gas price in the state Wednesday was $1.89 at the Bestway station on Park Avenue in Cranston. According to AAA’s daily fuel gage report, the state’s current average for regular gas is $2.18. Low crude oil prices, surging oil production and weak demand for gas have all contributed to the steady relief in prices.
