Oct. 5, Northern RI Out of the Darkness Community Walk, will be held on Sat., Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. Registration and activities will begin at 9 a.m. at Roger Williams Park Temple to Music. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States and the 11th leading cause of death in Rhode Island, yet it can be prevented. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Rhode Island Chapter (AFSP-RI )will be joining the thousands of people who are gathering this season in towns across the United States to promote suicide prevention.  For more details and to register, go to:  afsp.org/northernri.

Oct. 5, Project Linus of RI Fall Blanket Making Day invites the public to participate in their Fall Blanket Making Day on Sat., Oct. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at William Hall Library, 1825 Broad Street, Cranston. Join Project Linus to learn to make a blanket, knot, crochet, and/or tie fleece and meet other "Blanketeers." Bring a sewing machine if making a quilt or starting a new project with available materials. Snacks provided. Project Linus is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. Oct. 5, Ordination of Reverend Kathryn Mary Mainor-Goodness on Sat., Oct. 5, at 2 p.m., in The Chapel of St. Therese of Lisieux, 1500 Main St., West Warwick. Reverend Mainor-Goodness, a pastorally devoted and compassionate advocate, has long served the Inclusive Catholic Church of North America (ICCNA) community. Her ordination represents a significant milestone, not only for her personally but also for the entire church. This groundbreaking event exemplifies the ICCNA’s commitment to inclusivity, equality, and the recognition of diverse callings to ministry. Bishop Kenneth Corbin, a respected leader within the ICCNA, will preside over the ceremony.

Oct. 5, Conimicut Village Art Festival is on Sat., Oct. 5,  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the corner of Beach Ave. and West Shore Rd.  Over 20 vendors will be offering their fine arts for purchase. Oct. 19, 4th Annual No More Hunger Walk will be held on Sat., Oct. 19, to raise fund for local food pantries. Over $30,000 has been raised in the past three years. PSA Free Gun Locks at Cranston Public Library Secure storage of weapons is now the law in Rhode Island.  A Free Gun Lock and Securing Weapons Safely information is available at the Reference Desk at the Central Library, 140 Sockanosset Cross Rd., Cranston.  Stop by for a free gun lock and literature on how to securely store weapons.  Doing so will save lives and make our communities safer.  Residents from all RI communities are welcome. NAMI-RI Offers Family Support Groups 

The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) offers free support groups for families and friends of loved ones who are struggling with their mental health. The groups are led by trained facilitators who also have lived experience as family members themselves. The group meetings last about 1.5 hours, and everyone who participates in the meeting gets a chance to share. The other members of the group try to offer help and resources, when appropriate, based on their own experiences. Volunteer with NAMI-RI The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) is currently seeking volunteers to facilitate our family programs in 2024. Free training is required and available for interested persons who have a loved one struggling with mental health issues. Together with our grassroots volunteers, we work every day to provide help and hope to millions of Americans. Volunteers are essential to the work that we do at NAMI Rhode Island, and we are always seeking enthusiastic people to help us achieve our mission.
