IN THE ACT
On Dec. 30, around 11:38 a.m., members of the Cranston Police Department responded to a 911 call about a breaking-and-entering in progress at 17 Calvin St. The suspects were still inside the two-family home when police arrived. As police surrounded the home they noticed the rear door was ajar. Within moments, the suspects burst out of the house and a foot pursuit ensued. The chase went through several yards and the surrounding area until all four were caught.
Both floors of the two-family had been broken into. Several items were recovered from the suspects. A stolen car from Providence was found nearby and is believed to have been the get-away car.
Alejandro Ovalles, 19, of 1336 Eddy St. in Providence, was arraigned in District Court in Warwick and released on personal recognizance. Three juveniles were transported to the Rhode Island Training School pending a hearing in Family Court.
Ovalles was charged with possession of a stolen car, breaking and entering, conspiracy, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

BB BOO BOO
A Farmingdale, Maine resident was arrested in Warwick on New Year’s Eve and charged with felony assault on a Cranston Rescue truck on Route 2.
Police said the Rescue truck was on its way back to Cranston from Kent Hospital when it was stopped at a red light. Police said a passenger in a car stopped next to it allegedly pointed a BB gun at the ambulance and yelled something before driving away. Police caught up with the car and arrested Jose Vargas, 23, of Farmingdale, Maine, and charged him with felony assault. BB guns are considered a class of firearm in Rhode Island.
