On this Saturday, April 7, the Cranston Central Library will kick off National Library Week with the Center for Southeast Asians.

The speakers at the event will by the library’s director Ed Garcia, the director of programs for the Center for Southeast Asians, Kannyka Pouk and Mayor Allan Fung.

The event is free to the public and will include refreshments.

The purpose of the event is to acknowledge the growing Cambodian population in Rhode Island while inviting new Rhode Island residents to the library in the hopes they will use it as a future resource or safe space.

The Center for Southeast Asians is a Providence-based organization that serves Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian and Vietnamese people who arrived to Rhode Island as refugees.  Today, the organization serves around 20,000 Southeast Asian immigrants and refugees with the mission of promoting the prosperity, heritage and leadership of Southeast Asians in Rhode Island.
