East dedicates yearbook to friend, advisor DiCicco

Posted

As the days are marked off calendars to graduation and the end of their Cranston Public Schools careers, the Class of 2017 was excited and anxious to see their senior year captured forever in time in their yearbook.

Yearbook faculty advisor, art teacher Jill Cyr praised all the hard work and dedication the staff put into producing the yearbook.

“This book represents your shared journey made this year. You have made your mark in so many ways. Yearbook itself, is an evolving process and this class has moved it forward,” Cyr said.

The design editor of the yearbook, Miya Lohmeier, read opening remarks, told the class that for the first time senior quotes will be included, and announced that a 16-page supplement will be mailed to each senior over the summer.

Shantel Orellana, staff photojournalist, gave the retiring teacher recognition to science teacher Audrey Kampper, business teacher Diane Narcisi and English teacher Denise Vincelette.

Julia Fagundes, yearbook photojournalist, gave the dedication of the yearbook to Senior Class advisor Andrea DiCicco.

DiCicco waved to her husband and father who were in the audience, and she became tearful as she took the stage.

Superintendent, Jeannine Nota-Masse was present for the program, and commended the Class of 2017 on their fundraising goals and efforts.

“They possess a selfless generosity of spirit that has raised them above their peers. I am in awe of all they do and have done for Cranston East and the greater Cranston community,” she said.

Reflecting on her past 12 years as a class advisor, and deciding to step down from the position, DiCicco thought about what this class has meant to her.

“As I drove home from school I was thinking about the song "How does a moment last forever?" The answer to this question is the love that allows us to continue to sing our songs. I've been fortunate to have many of these students through my classes or class council and they are truly a special group. Once this journey has ended, I think we will all reflect back on our ‘place’ in history; this class will have many stories to tell and much to be proud of,” she said.
