Eugene P. Gibbons, 78, of Warwick, died June 30, 2010 at Cedar Crest Nursing Center, Cranston. Born in Providence, a son of the late Charles A. and Margaret C. (Hackett) Gibbons, he lived in Warwick for most of his life. He was a 1950 graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence and a 1959 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a former member of the American Legion. Mr. Gibbons was a sales representative for Dixon Office Supplies before retiring in 1990. He was previously employed by Chesebrough-Ponds USA Co. and American Tobacco. An avid golfer, he was a former member of Potowomut Golf Club and Crestwood Country Club. He is survived by four sisters, Anne M. Walker and her husband, Donald, of Naples, Fla. and Margaret H. Robinson, Catherine V. McLaughlin and Mary E. Gibbons, all of Warwick; his former wife, Gail (Dacey) Gibbons of Cranston; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles A. Gibbons Jr. and The Honorable Gerald T. Gibbons, former mayor of Warwick. His funeral was held July 3 from Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. William Church, Pettaconsett Ave., Warwick. Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Contributions in his memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
