A two-alarm fire swept through a mixed-use residential and commercial building on Park Avenue late Friday night. One business, Phunky Stuff, was also damaged on the bottom floor. By Monday, the entire building was torn down. Three children from two families who lived in the building attend Cranston Public Schools, and the district is looking for support for these families in the form of donations of clothing and gift cards. The district is planning a citywide dress down day with proceeds benefiting the families. The families are currently staying in Johnston with relatives. The children include a fourth grade boy, who is a size 14/16; third grade girl, size 16; first grade girl, size 5/6; pre-school girl, size 4. There are also two adult females, whose sizes are unknown, who are mothers of the children and lost everything. If you want to donate, contact Roxanne Murphy at Barrows Elementary School at 270-8160 or rmurphy@cpsed.net. (Herald photo by Steve Popiel)
