Fontana has the ‘Manpower’ to collect blood donations

FOR FONTANA: A blood drive was recently held for Peter Fontana by Manpower, Inc. in Cranston. As Fontana was busy planning his wedding last year, he received the news that he was diagnosed with leukemia. Fontana, a Johnston resident who spent most of his life in Cranston, had been urged to see a doctor after a few days of not feeling well. His doctors at Roger Williams Medical Center told him that his only hope for a cure would be a bone marrow transplant. He had no matching donors in his family, but an unrelated donor was found on the Be The Match Registry and he received his transplant in November of 2011. Fontana has unfortunately relapsed with the disease and is currently receiving treatment while waiting for his second bone marrow transplant. Gina Clapprood, branch manager at Manpower, Inc. in Cranston, organized the drive for Fontana. Pictured at the drive is Clapprood ready to board the RI Blood Center bloodmobile to make her donation.
