The Cranston Republican City Committee has a new chairman as a result of the recent resignation of Thomas Trudell.

By virtue of the party by-laws, First-Vice Chairman John Colasante has assumed the chairmanship.  In a statement on the transition, Colasante said “I look forward to working with Mayor Ken Hopkins, our other elected officials and city committee members as we continue to build the Cranston Republican Party.”

“I wholeheartedly support John’s leadership, as he has always played a vital role in our city. It is thrilling to witness him take the helm as chairman of the party and elevate it to new heights,” said Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins

Colasante stated “2024 is a very important year for Cranston residents and there is much work to be done to convey our message of good government, sound accomplishments, and a great vision for the city.”

“We have a lot of work in this election year.” He said “we are working on candidate recruitment and training, fundraising and supporting our incumbent mayor and to elect a new majority on the city council”, said Colasante.

City-Wide Councilwoman and Minority Leader Nicole Renzulli stated, “John Colasante’s ascension to Chairman of the Cranston Republicans comes at a pivotal moment for our party and our city.  As the city council’s Minority Leader, I am truly excited about our shared vision, positive energy, and desire to collaborate for the betterment of Cranston.  John’s background as a successful, young business owner adds a refreshing perspective that will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our team. Under Chairman Colasante’s leadership, I am confident that we will continue to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities to propel our party and our beloved city forward together.”

Councilman Chris Paplauskas added, “I have known John Colasante for many years and I know he is up to the task of leading the Cranston GOP. He will bring  the same level of commitment and energy to the position that I have seen first hand from him while working at his family business right here in our great city. The future is bright for the Cranston GOP with Chairman Colasante.”

The new chairman recognized the service of Trudell to the party and thanked him for his efforts.  “We wish Tom the best of luck.”

Colasante, age 32 is recently engaged, a proud father of a 9-month old girl and a local Cranston family business owner.
