Learn about the most common diseases often diagnosed in people with diabetes and what you can do about it.

Abuse, Fraud, & Current Scam Trends

Today, elder abuse comes in all forms, from physical violence to financial exploitation, with perpetrators ranging from family members to foreign scam artists. Topics of discussion at this presentation will include abuse, fraud schemes, scam trends and more.

Humor Me: Laughter is the Best Medicine

This workshop will give you a reason to look on the lighter side of life. Smiling and laughing are good for your health and soul. You will be taught how to “chill out” and experience laughter breaks. Have you lost your funny bone? Come and find out why “laughter is the best medicine.”

Living Well Rhode Island: Tools for Healthy Living

Thursdays, Feb. 27 through April 2, 9-11:30 a.m.This free program is for those individuals who simply want to improve their quality of life. It provides self-management tools anyone can use to make a positive difference in their lives. Participants receive a workbook and a relaxation CD. Upon successfully completing the program participants will receive a gift certificate. Registration is necessary. Call 780-6000.

Support Groups

The Cranston Department of Senior Services offers the following support groups to help you and your loved one deal with conditions such as diabetes, visual impairment and caregiving: Diabetes Support Group, Insight Support Group, Memory Café and Caregivers Support Group. For more information, call 780-6254.

Caregiver volunteers needed

Volunteers are being sought to provide respite services for homebound seniors. Services include providing companionship, running errands and providing transportation to medical appointments.

If you are interested in becoming an RSVP caregiver volunteer, contact Karen at 780-6159 for an interview. Volunteers must be 55 years of age or older and a BCI check is required. A mileage reimbursement is provided to cover the cost to travel.
