Park theater briefly up for auction, before cancellation

Posted

The Park Theater was briefly ticketed as open for public auction this week, but the auction didn’t stick.

Irving Schechtman & Co., Inc., a West Warwick based auctioneer firm, listed a mortgagee’s sale for March 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. on the premises of the embattled theater. The Mortgagee, local entrepreneur Ed Brady, was to be represented by the attorney Edward G. Avila Esq.

However, by Tuesday morning the auction was called off, and the theater, which had been a featured item on Irving Schechtman & Co’s website, was removed from listings.

Brady had this to say to the Herald on Monday night. “I have great news to share in that the auction this week has been canceled and that a long term operational plan is in the final stages with an announcement soon to follow.”

As of Tuesday morning, there has been no announcement. The Park Theater’s website is not functional and their facebook page has not been updated in over a month. Several commenters on the site complain of shows canceled and tickets not refunded.

There have been very few shows booked at the theater for several months.

Taxes for the the theater, which has been the property of Brady since 2021, are one quarter behind according to City Treasurer Dave Capuano. The money owed, which goes back to January are $26,986.61 for the theater, $395.16 for a small nearby lot, and sewer fees of $3,881.97.
