Proclamation Ale hosts a night of laughs for RI Rescue

When it comes to purchasing a pet to bring into your home, it’s always best to do so through an animal rescue organization. These friendly creatures usually come to these places from dangerous situations where they’ve dealt with an irresponsible and abusive owner, been completely abandoned while having to fend for themselves or even worse. One of the places of refuge for dogs in this instance is Rhode Home Rescue, which is a locally based all-volunteer non-profit that identifies and rescues all types of breeds from the situations I just mentioned while looking to place them in a loving and attentive environment. To raise funds for the organization, Proclamation Ale Company on 298 Kilvert Street in Warwick is putting on an evening of stand-up comedy on May 11 at 8pm.

The show is being presented by the New Hampshire based Moccia Comedy Productions, which has raised over $60,000 over the past year for numerous charities that are all over the New England region. Along with the laughs, there’s going to be plenty of Proclamation’s beer on tap along with food available for purchase from both Saugy Hot Dogs and Matilda Empanadas.

“Join us for a night of laughter and giving back!,” Proclamation’s Owner & Creative Director Lori Witham says about the event. “‘Charity Comedy Night’ at Proclamation is here to support Rhode Home Rescue. Enjoy hilarious comedians while supporting a local charity. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to have a good time and make a difference in our community. Grab your friends and get ready for a night to remember!”

Gabi Hajos, who has been a fixture all over Rhode Island and beyond, is going to be the host for the night while utilizing her trademark wit and one-of-a-kind comedic approach. Massachusetts comic Matthew P. Brown is going to be opening the show while sharing stories from his childhood, his family, past relationships and moments from his life that anyone can relate to. He’s performed in some of the top comedy clubs on the planet including the Comedy Store and the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles. Brown has also worked with some of the top comics in today’s scene like Mark Normand while having a substantial following on social media that has garnered him millions of views. To get a proper preview of what to expect, search for his hilarious material on YouTube and have yourself a laugh.

Headlining the benefit is Janet McNamara, who hails from Boston while being known for her authentic style that is inspired by comedic conversation and an energy that has been described as “awkwardly charming”. This approach to her craft has garnered her a fan base that ranges from young hipsters to suburban housewives while having the opportunity to open for some heavy hitters including Maria Bamford. The upcoming show is 21+, so keep the kids at home and call a babysitter if needed. To purchase tickets ahead of time, log on to the events tab on Proclamation’s website at proclamationale.com.
