St. Mary’s Feast Society kicked off October with its annual Steak Fry fundraiser. Guests were treated to steak, pasta, salad and a variety of tasty offerings as the society worked to raise funds necessary to organizing next year’s St. Mary’s Feast. Having held the 118th annual feast this year, the whole city looks forward to the 119th next year.
A staple of Cranston and the Knightsville area, the feast commemorates the history of the city along with the repose, or falling asleep, of the Mother Mary and the translation, or assumption, into heaven of the body of Theotokos, St. Mary’s Church proudly declares on their website. For those unaware, “Theotokos” is the traditional Eastern Orthodox term used to describe the Virgin Mary. (Photos by Steve Popiel)
