RI’s Shark Plate — first charity to make its plate available to motorcycles!

Posted

According to the Atlantic Shark Institute (ASI), the first request to make their popular Shark Plate available for motorcycles was two hours after the plates were announced in late April – and they haven’t stopped since. As a result, beginning today, ASI is now taking orders for motorcycles, and they’re the first charity plate in Rhode Island history to do so.

“We hadn’t even gotten to lunchtime on our first day and we already had people asking if we could make the plates available to motorcyclists,” said ASI Executive Director, Jon Dodd.

“It’s a logical extension, and the fourth version we’ll be offering,” said Dodd. “After a lot of thought, and discussion with the Rhode Island DMV, we decided that there was no reason we couldn’t offer it based on the demand.”

Plates that are available with the ASI Mako Shark logo include passenger, combination, commercial, and now motorcycle. According to Dodd, they have orders for more than 6,000 plates in total, and minimums for passenger and combination plates were met almost immediately after the program was launched. Commercial plates are halfway to the 600 minimum order requirement and motorcycles now join the offering.

“This will do it for the different plate versions that make sense for us at this time, but we have been overwhelmed by the amazing response from our neighbors here in the Ocean State, and hope to hit the commercial and motorcycle minimums soon,” Dodd concluded.
