A driver who admitted to striking the Bank of America building in Garden City Center early Saturday morning has been cited for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in property damage, according to Chief of Police Col. Michael Winquist.

Police responded to the scene at 6:40 a.m. Saturday after a person reported seeing a large hole in the side of the building, Winquist said in a statement. Officers confirmed the damage, which appeared to have resulted from a vehicle striking the building.

“Officers checked the interior of building and it didn’t appear anything else had disturbed inside,” Winquist said. “No calls for any alarms were received at that location.”

Winquist said that at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, a person arrived at Cranston Police headquarters and told police he had struck the building with his vehicle. Officers confirmed the damage to the man’s vehicle, the chief said, and the citation was issued. The driver was not identified.
