John O’Leary, former mayor of Cranston and director of special programs at the University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein College of Continuing Education in Providence, was honored with the Dr. Gilbert Mongeau Award last month. The award recognizes outstanding service to the college, and was established in 1982 by its namesake and former dean Walter Crocker. The award was given during the induction of 14 new members into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Epsilon Rho Chapter Honor Society on April 29. Three Cranston residents – Shira B. Raisner, Domingo Joseph Varella, and Heather Jean Velzis – were among the inductees. Pictured are O’Leary and Sharon Ellery, who is the president/chair of the Alpha Sigma Lamda Epsilon Rho Chapter Honor Society at the Feinstein College of Continuing Education.
