After opening league play with a victory, the Cranston East boys’ soccer team tied Ponaganset and lost to St. Raphael in its next two league match-ups. Last week and so far this week, the ’Bolts have been right back in business.

They got back into the win column last week with a 2-0 victory over Scituate. Dennis Vasquez and Kevin Donnelly had the goals, while Andy Gomez picked up an assist. Joshua Reyes made 10 saves for the shutout.

East then had nearly a week off before returning to the field Monday and blasting Masters 10-3. East broke open a 2-1 game with eight goals in the second half. Vasquez had two goals and four assists, Joel Tolbert had two goals and two assists and Kevin Pantoga tallied two goals. Tiago Pacheco, Jarod Linne and Keith McAteer had one goal each, as did Reyes, who made seven saves in net before playing in the field in the second half. Andy Gomez added two assists and Jimmy Vang had one.

East improved to 3-1-1 with the victory, which keeps it in the top group of Division III. East was set to play again on Tuesday against Johnston, with results unavailable at press time.

Falcons still on the hunt

The Cranston West girls’ soccer team continues to play nothing but close games, but as of Tuesday, the Falcons were still searching for their first victory.

On Monday, East lost 2-1 to East Greenwich, its second consecutive one-goal loss. The Falcons fell to 0-6-1. They’ve lost three games by one goal, two games by two goals and one game by three goals – their largest margin of defeat.

West took a 1-0 lead on East Greenwich on Monday thanks to an Eleni Grammas goal, with an assist from Nadia White. But the Avengers scored two unanswered goals in the second half to win it. The decisive goal came with just two minutes left in the game.

West was set to play North Kingstown on Wednesday. It will visit South Kingstown on Friday at 6 p.m.
