Macera earns LEC honors

Rhode Island College sophomore Erica Botelho (Greenville, R.I.), senior Lauren Macera (Cranston, R.I.), senior Amiah Sommer (Cumberland, R.I.), junior Amara Devine (Greenville, R.I.) and senior Anna Vygoder (Lincoln, R.I.) were recognized by the Little East for their respective performances in women’s tennis during the 2023 season.
Botelho was named First Team All-Little East in both singles and doubles. She was 10-4 and primarily No. 2 singles and 11-4 at primarily No. 1 doubles.

Macera was named First Team All-Little East in doubles and Second Team All-Little East in singles. She was 8-4 at No. 1 singles and 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Sommer was named First Team All-Little East in doubles and Second Team All-Little East in singles. She was 8-3 at primarily No. 3 singles and 12-3 at primarily No. 2 doubles.

Devine was named First Team All-Little East in doubles. She was 11-3 at primarily No. 5 singles and 12-3 at primarily No. 2 doubles.

Vygoder was named to the Little East Women’s Tennis Sportsmanship Team. She was 13-1 at No. 3/4 singles and 10-4 at primarily No. 3 doubles.
Head Coach Adam Spring’s team wrapped up the 2023 season with a 12-3 overall record and a 7-1 (second place) mark in the Little East. The Anchorwomen lost in the finals of the Little East Championship, 5-0, to No. 1-seeded UMass Boston on Oct. 21.

CCRI grabs 7th seed

The Community College of Rhode Island women’s soccer team has earned the No. 7 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division III National Championships and began its quest Tuesday, November 7 at 4 pm in a quarterfinal showdown Dallas College Brookhaven, the No. 2 seed and defending two-time national champion.

The Knights (10-3) punched their ticket to the Nationals for the first time since 2009 by winning the Region XXI Tournament this past weekend. They are one of eight schools to qualify for the Nationals, which run from November 7–12 at Caromont Health Park in Gastonia, NC.

The Dallas Brookhaven Bears enter the NJCAAs at 12-2-1 overall and have won eight in a row with five of those wins by shutout. They are attempting to win their third consecutive national title and fifth overall. CCRI enters the tournament equally hot having won four in a row and six of its last seven. The Knights breezed through the Region XXI Tournament and have outscored their last four opponents by a 23-2 margin.
